Meet the Candidate

Juan Carrillo

As the Antelope Valley’s only elected Democratic councilmember, Juan Carrillo has the proven record, values, and personal story to win California’s new 39th Latino Majority Assembly District.

Juan serves as a member of the Palmdale City Council where he has fought to expand affordable housing, address the homelessness crisis, increase green space, and support local small businesses as they recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

A former member of the Palmdale School Board, Juan has made equal, quality education, and affordable community college a reality for thousands of Antelope Valley students.

Juan was born and raised in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico, and immigrated to Los Angeles when he was 15. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Architecture from College of the Desert, Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from California State Polytechnic University Pomona, and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University Northridge. Before entering public office, Carrillo served as a city planner for 15 years — 10 of which were with the City of Palmdale.

Juan lives with his wife Vanessa, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, in east Palmdale. Their four children attended Palmdale public schools.
